A GREEN DEVELOPMENT
The new development will follow the GLA’s Energy Hierarchy; use less energy ‘Be Lean’, supply energy efficiently ‘Be Clean’, use renewable energy ‘Be Green’.
In line with LB Barking and Dagenham’s aspirations for new developments, active transport will be encouraged, restricting car parking spaces and providing cycling facilities and access to public transport, including the proposed Beam Park station.
The updated proposals have reduced car parking numbers to 977 spaces (0.3 per household with 20% providing active charging facilities), increased cycle storage provision to 5,670 spaces (an increase of over 2,000 spaces compared to the previous plans), and guarantee a minimum 35% reduction in CO2 emissions.
The development’s sustainable design standards are integral to the proposal, these include supplying heating and domestic hot water via the local district heating energy centre, already under construction within an earlier phase of the wider development (phase 2B).
This provides all the dwellings within the application a central, energy efficient form of heat delivery.
Beam Park phase 3 – 8 hybrid application will be designed to satisfy the new London Plan policy and achieve a minimum 35% reduction in CO2 emissions.
